Vintage Monet brooch from 1970 marked, 6x6 cm in excellent vintage condition, gold-plated. The history of Monet jewelry began in 1927. Initially, the company's craftsmen made gilded monograms and jewelry for bags. It is impossible to say precisely what prompted the founders to name their jewelry brand Monet. Perhaps they liked the works of impressionist artists Édouard Manet and Claude Monet. Notably, the Chernov brothers' jewelry under the "Monet" brand first appeared in 1937... Since 1984, the Monet company has effectively ceased its existence. In 2000, the company's rights were acquired by one of the largest US corporations, Liz Claiborne, Inc., making all jewelry highly favored by many vintage collectors.
