Атлас Атлантического и Индийского океанов является вторым томом Атласа океанов и содержит семь разделов:
История исследования океанов;
Дно океанов;
Климат;
Гидрология;
Гидрохимия;
Биогеография;
Справочные и навигационно-географические карты.
Каждый раздел атласа предваряется текстом, в котором кратко излагается методика, положенная в основу построения карт данного раздела, характеризуются исходные материалы и, в необходимых случаях, указывается научное и практическое значение представленных на картах элементов.
Атлас предназначен для научных работников, офицеров Армии и Военно-Морского Флота, капитанов и штурманов транспортного и промыслового флотов. Обширный материал, сосредоточенный в атласе, представляет большой познавательный интерес и может быть использован в учебном процессе.

The Atlas of Oceans is a fundamental scientific work that summarizes current knowledge about natural processes and phenomena occurring in the world's oceans and the atmosphere above them. The maps included in the atlas are based on scientific data collected throughout the history of ocean research. It makes full use of observations from coastal and drifting stations, satellite data, and other materials. The Atlas of the Atlantic and Indian Oceans is the second volume of the Atlas of the Oceans and contains seven sections: History of Ocean Research; Ocean Floor; Climate; Hydrology; Hydrochemistry;
Biogeography; Reference and navigational-geographical maps. Each section of the atlas is preceded by a text that briefly outlines the methodology used to construct the maps in that section, describes the source materials, and, where necessary, indicates the scientific and practical significance of the elements presented on the maps.
The atlas is intended for researchers, Army and Navy officers, captains and navigators of transport and commercial fleets. The extensive material contained in the atlas is of great educational interest and can be used in the teaching process.
