The central character of the novel "Kalendārs mani sauc" is a young man with a difficult-to-define mental health condition. At times, his mind seems to function like a child's, while at other times, better than most adults. The story's structure consists of letters written to the local small-town pastor, in which the main character reflects on the events in his life, thereby discovering himself and the world around him. An unhappy love affair has led him to the existential need to memorize the name days celebrated on each calendar date, to "get closer" to the girl he desires, as among all the names, hers can be found.
