Konstantīns Karulis' "Latvian Etymological Dictionary" (2 volumes, 1992) is the most comprehensive study of Latvian language etymology. In its 1300+ pages, it explains the origin of words, their kinship with other Indo-European languages, the development of meanings, and historical layers. The work has received the J. Endzelīns Award and is considered the foundational volume of etymology in Latvia.
