A set of tableware made from melchior (nickel silver) of Soviet production, covered with a thin layer of silver (usually 20–30 microns), which gives them the appearance and shine of real silver, but at a much lower price. Such sets were very popular in the USSR during the 1960s–1980s as "prestigious" tableware for home/gifts.
MNC (Copper-Nickel-Zinc) is Neusilber - "new silver," an alloy that imitates silver. It is durable, does not tarnish significantly, and holds polish
well.
Typical Soviet "melchior" tableware is eternal, practical, but not precious. If the coating still shines, it can be cleaned with a special paste for silver/melchior (not abrasive!).
