Vladimir Gailis (1917-2009), cinematographer and photographer, worked at the Riga Documentary Film Studio (from 1946), later at Riga Film Studio. He was the cinematographer for more than 1400 film journals, which have documented Latvian history during various periods. Over the years, he collaborated with directors Aloizs Brenčs, Laimonis Gaigals, Vadims Mass, Irina Mass, Aleksandrs Gribermanis, and others.
