Vladimiru Gaili ar kino saistīti cilvēki dēvēja par Bosu Gaili, kino vide viņš bija mīlēta un cienīta personība, vairāku pazīstamu operatoru pirmais skolotājs un autoritāte. Savas kino gaitas kā viņa asistenti aizsākuši tādi sevi pierādījuši operatori kā Ivars Seleckis, Gvido Skulte, Kalvis Zalcmanis, Andris Seleckis, Andrejs Apsītis, Sergejs Nikolajevs.
Vladimirs Gailis bija arī aizrautīgs fotogrāfs un ar bilžu uzņemšanu nodarbojās no agras jaunības līdz pat 90 gadu vecumam. Aizraušanās ar fotografēšanu ieņēma būtisku vietu viņa operatora darbā. Ar savām fotogrāfijām viņš piedalījies vairākās vietēja un starptautiska mēroga fotoizstādēs.

Vladimir Gailis (1917-2009), cinematographer and photographer, worked at the Riga Documentary Film Studio (from 1946), later at Riga Film Studio. He was the cinematographer for more than 1400 film journals, which have documented Latvian history during various periods. Over the years, he collaborated with directors Aloizs Brenčs, Laimonis Gaigals, Vadims Mass, Irina Mass, Aleksandrs Gribermanis, and others.
People associated with cinema referred to Vladimir Gailis as Boss Gailis; he was a beloved and respected figure in the film industry, the first teacher and authority for several well-known cinematographers. Cinematographers such as Ivars Seleckis, Gvido Skulte, Kalvis Zalcmanis, Andris Seleckis, Andrejs Apsītis, Sergejs Nikolajevs began their cinematic careers as his assistants.
Vladimir Gailis was also an enthusiastic photographer and engaged in photography from early youth until the age of 90. His passion for photography played a significant role in his cinematographic work. He participated in several local and international photo exhibitions with his photographs.
