TO OUR READERS There is no one on Earth who can look indifferently at the majestic, silent night sky. Thousands of sparkling stars and planets wandering among them, the appearance of comets with tails, solar and lunar eclipses — all this seemed a wonderful mystery many thousands of years ago. Unable to explain the phenomena that struck their imagination, ancient observers
deified the heavenly bodies and tried to use them to predict the fate of individuals and entire nations. Years passed. Humanity accumulated more and more information about celestial phenomena. Much of what had previously seemed mysterious and supernatural now had a simple explanation.
