Rīka Pulkinen's novel "Burvība" is an autopsy of girlhood and the use of power, a brilliant study of how powerful and comforting fantasies can be, and how fragile the difference between love and play is. Seventeen-year-old Filipa Lākso is found dead in her home's yard. There are no signs of a crime, and everyone who knew the girl says she had no suicidal tendencies. However, at times it seems they are not talking about the same person.
Each character in the novel sees Filipa differently - as a mirror to their fantasies, anger, efforts, comforts, and searches for freedom, and uses this constructed image for their own purposes. But the reader constantly has to think about who the real narrator is.
