Okeānu mazais zivēns iztēlojas, kā “īsto varoņu” pasauli, kurā viss ir daudz labāks un visi ir daudz pārāki par “parastiem” lašiem “parastā” upē vai jūrā. New Book

Daina Tabūna's first prose book for children – the novella "Salmon Stasis and the Atlantic Ocean" with illustrations by Agate Lielpētere. The story tells of a small salmon, his acquaintance with the river, the Baltic Sea, fish, and other water inhabitants, about the journey full of natural and human-induced dangers to the Atlantic Ocean – as the ocean is called by salmon. The book is intended for younger school-age children, who will also enjoy the colorful water world imagined in the artist's illustrations.

The small fish imagines the ocean as the world of "real heroes," where everything is much better and everyone is superior to "ordinary" salmon in an "ordinary" river or sea. The journey encounters perch and porpoises, nets, and pollution, yet the long and difficult swim is successful for the salmon. However, Stasis has to lose his friend Judith, who originated from ocean salmon, gained during the journey. Conversations with her make Stasis feel doubts about the imagined greatness of ocean salmon. In reality, everything turns out to be quite different than dreamed, and the real heroic deed becomes Stasis's persistent, clever return to his native river. In this engaging plot, both the boy's coming-of-age story, filled with many human emotions, and important knowledge about natural processes are revealed, although presented in a "humanized" form – salmon Stasis loves his parents, argues with his conceited cousin, and even composes funny verses. The book increases understanding of nature, ecological processes, and environmental threats – not every child knows that even the balloon they release into the air can become a dangerous trap for a living creature when it ends up in the sea.
